Maqām of Liberation
Arabic hip-flow

Maqām of Liberation is a community-based dance practice I facilitate, rooted in body connection, release, and the freeing of stagnant energy. It offers a space for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together in movement, guided by Arabic music and rhythm, and to reconnect with themselves and each other.

The gatherings are inspired by the deep traditions of movement and rhythm across Arabic cultures, while also offering a modern container for expression. Each session creates an atmosphere of safety and acceptance, allowing participants to shed stiffness and reconnect with vitality.

The name “Maqām” speaks both to the musical mode and to a spiritual station or state of being. Through dance, participants explore that space of liberation - personal and collective - in a way that words alone cannot reach.

The sessions often close with shared reflection or tea, grounding the experience in community connection.

This is a monthly koha-based, women-only gathering.
